سجدۂ سہو کا طریقہ
Sajda sahw ka tarika fixes mistakes made by forgetfulness in namaz: two extra sajdahs at the end of the prayer. In the Hanafi school it is required when a wajib of the prayer is missed, delayed or done twice by mistake.
When, by mistake, you:
If a farz (like ruku or a sajdah) is missed completely, sajda sahw is not enough: the prayer must be repeated. If something was left on purpose, sajda sahw does not fix it.
The Prophet ﷺ once stood up after the second rakat of Zuhr without sitting; when he finished the prayer, he made two prostrations before the salam (Sahih al-Bukhari 1225).
See the duas in namaz ka tarika step by step.
| Mistake | What to do |
|---|---|
| Stood up instead of the first sitting | If not yet fully standing, sit back down; if fully standing, continue and do sajda sahw |
| Forgot the surah in the 1st or 2nd rakat of farz | Sajda sahw |
| Forgot dua-e-qunoot in witr | Sajda sahw (witr ka tarika) |
| Not sure if you prayed 3 or 4 rakats | If it happens rarely, repeat the prayer; if often, go with your strongest feeling, then sajda sahw |
| Behind the imam you made a mistake | No sajda sahw for you; the imam carries it |
When a wajib of the prayer is missed, delayed or repeated by forgetfulness.
If you remember before leaving your place or speaking, do it then. Otherwise, Hanafi scholars say the prayer should be repeated while its time remains.
In the Hanafi school, after one salam to the right, then the prayer is completed again with tashahhud and salam.
Mistakes in namaz are human; the Prophet ﷺ himself was made to forget so that we would learn this. Remember the five steps and your prayer is complete.
