صلاۃ التسبیح کا طریقہ
Salatul tasbeeh ka tarika is a 4-rakat nafl prayer in which you say one short tasbeeh 75 times in every rakat, 300 times in all. The Prophet ﷺ taught it to his uncle al-Abbas and encouraged him to pray it once a day, once a week, once a month, once a year, or at least once in a lifetime.
"Glory be to Allah, all praise is for Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest."
The Prophet ﷺ said to al-Abbas: "O Abbas, my uncle, shall I not give you, shall I not present to you... ten things which, if you do them, Allah will forgive your sins, the first and the last, old and new..." and then taught him this prayer (Sunan Abu Dawud 1297, graded sahih by al-Albani). Some scholars considered its chains weak, but many hadith masters accepted it, and it has been prayed across the ummah for centuries.
This is the method of Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak, reported by at-Tirmidhi, which the Hanafi school follows.
| Position | Count |
|---|---|
| After sana, before Fatiha | 15 |
| After Fatiha and the surah | 10 |
| In ruku (after Subhana Rabbiyal 'Azim) | 10 |
| Standing after ruku (qawmah) | 10 |
| First sajdah (after Subhana Rabbiyal A'la) | 10 |
| Sitting between the sajdahs (jalsa) | 10 |
| Second sajdah | 10 |
| Each rakat | 75 |
| 4 rakats | 300 |
Count on your fingers by pressing (not moving the fingers visibly). If you forget a count in one place, make it up in the next position, but not in qawmah or jalsa (which are short); add it in the following sajdah or the next standing.
Any time except the makrooh times (sunrise, zawal and sunset; see makrooh auqat). Many pray it on Friday, in Ramadan, or on special nights.
4 rakats, with 75 tasbeeh in each: 300 in all.
It is a nafl prayer, best prayed individually; praying it in congregation is not established practice.
No. Recite it in Arabic, as taught.
Any surahs. Some scholars recommend At-Takathur, Al-Asr, Al-Kafirun and Al-Ikhlas.
Print the count table, keep it in front of you the first time, and pray it once this week. Its reward is worth the twenty minutes.
